Explore Christian contemplative prayer, Zen meditation, mindfulness, & spiritual practice in this 3-week series with Will W. Adams, PhD.
This program is FREE and open to all experience levels.
Mondays, November 16, 23 & 30 | 6:15–7:30 PM. Studio 2
Designed and led by Will W. Adams, PhD, this program will explore various practices from the Christian contemplative and mystical traditions and from Zen Buddhism.
Most deeply, we will create conditions for each of us to actualize the heart of spiritual life: discovering our own true nature and bringing it to fruition as understanding, compassion, love, and justice amidst the joys and nitty-gritty struggles of everyday life.
No previous experience is necessary. This series welcomes complete beginners as well as experienced contemplative practitioners.
What We'll Explore
We will begin with the foundations of meditation and the place of contemplative practice within the context of a larger spiritual life.
Open, silent meditation, including Christian Centering Prayer, Zen, and mindfulness
Contemplative reading (lectio divina), an ancient Christian practice
Body-oriented practices such as qigong and yoga
Intimacy with nature
Time permitting, theme-focused practices such as loving-kindness and self-compassion meditation
Will will also offer guidance on how to create and sustain a consistent meditation practice and bring contemplative sensibilities into our daily relationships, work, and creative endeavors.
